Breaux Bridge - A memorial service will be held at Pellerin Funeral Home Chapel in Breaux Bridge, on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. for Norman Wilson Cameron, 87, of Parks, who died on Friday, July 15, 2011 at Meadowbrook Hospital.
Mr. Cameron was born in Fair Haven, New Jersey on December 21, 1923 . He was an athletic young man who was star of his high school football, track, and swimming teams.
Upon graduation in 1942 he entered the U.S. Navy where he served for over 22 years. During his service he saw conflict in both the WWII Pacific Campaign and the Korean War. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Navy Commendation, Good Conduct, American Campaign, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign, WWII National Defense and Philippine Liberation Medals. He retired from the Navy in 1964 as a Senior Chief Petty Officer.
After retiring from the Navy he relocated his family to his wife's hometown of Parks, and began a second career with Butcher Air Conditioning, where he worked for 22 years.
Cameron, as he was known to everyone, loved fishing, reading, going to the casino, camping, traveling, and cooking pancakes for his grandchildren on Saturday mornings. He was a member of the American Legion, and was active for many years in the Parks Youth Club. He was a generous man and continued that generosity after death by donating his body to Tulane University Medical Center.
He was devoted to his wife of 58 years, the former Laurance Thibodeaux of Parks. His children include two daughters, Linda C. Dor and her husband Raymond (Ron) of Breaux Bridge, Karen C. Hebert and husband John of Parks, and one son, David Cameron and wife Yvonne Cormier of Cecilia. Survivors include grandchildren, Lacey Dor, Christy Dauphinet (Kyle), Camey Dor, Brian Dor, Terry Hebert (Gidget), Keith Hebert, John P. Hebert (Clarissa), Ira Cameron (Christie), Steven Cameron and Robert Cameron; and 12 great grandchildren.
He is also survived by a brother Robert Cameron of New York and a sister Margaret Post of New Jersey and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Cameron was preceded in death by his parents Robert A. Cameron and Martha Trafford Cameron, one brother Aubrey Cameron and one sister Marion Mandia.
