Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 pm, on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Norman "Sonny Boy" J. Lavergne, 78, who passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at St. Agnes Healthcare & Rehab Center.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 10:00 pm on Friday, and continue on Saturday at 7:00 am until 12:30 pm. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm on Friday.
Fr. Joseph Campion will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Mary Rose Verret and Keshia Cormier. Gift Bearers will be Denise Lavergne, Brenda Verret, Belinda Bienvenu, and Jeannette Thibodeaux. Interment will follow at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Cemetery in Lafayette.
Mr. Lavergne was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Parks and the Life Underwriters Association. His fascination with automobiles led him to a career as an auto salesman. After retirement, he was a security guard at Schlumberger and Catin's. He loved telling stories about the "good ole days" - remembering his childhood and the way he grew up. He enjoyed barbecuing, gardening, listening to Cajun music, and most of all enjoying life to the fullest with his wife, Hazel and family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife Rita Hazel Angelle Lavergne; his children, Marcus Lavergne and wife Janelle, Jeffery James Lavergne and wife Ann, Todd Joseph Lavergne and wife Bonnie, Denise Lavergne, and Bert Louis Lavergne and wife Jessica; brothers, Raymond Lavergne and wife Cecilia, and Lee Anthony Lavergne and wife Katherine; 4 step children; 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; and 23 step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents, Louis and Adolia Royer Lavergne.
Pallbearers will be Marcus Lavergne, Todd Joseph Lavergne, Bert Louis Lavergne, Shawn Verret, Shane Verret, and Travis Thibodeaux.
