Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge for Norris N. Robert, 87, who passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018, at his residence.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Friday and continue on Saturday at 7:00 am until 10:00 am.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm on Friday.
Rev. Garrett McIntyre will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Con-Celebrants will be Deacon Keith Duhon and Deacon Marcel "Butch" Hebert. Gift Bearers will be Selena Ballentine, Felicia Hankins, Veronica Jones, Jeanne Calais, and Landry Calais. Readers will be Lisa Duhon and Joey Picard.
Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
Norris devoted his life to his country. He retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service, including tours of duty in Germany, Japan and Korea during which he earned the Bronze Star with Valor, a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, his Parachute Badge, and various campaign medals and ribbons. Norris remained committed to his military brothers and sisters, serving as the Commander of the American Legion Post 133 in Breaux Bridge and as a member of the Fort Polk Retiree Council.
After retiring from the Army, Norris worked for McDermott International. He continued his service to his community as an employee of the City of Breaux Bridge and the St. Martin Sheriffs Department. He enjoyed spending time with his family, horse racing, sitting at a card table playing a good game of Boure and playing pool.
He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Shirley Landry Robert of Breaux Bridge; daughters, Selena Ballantine and husband Joseph, Felicia Hankins and husband Andrew, and Veronica Jones all of Louisville, KY, and Jeanne Calais and husband Jamie of Cecilia; grandchildren, Alex Thomas, Ashley Hurst and spouse Brent, Dylan Jones, Samuel Ballantine all of Louisville, KY, Landry Calais and Lawson Calais, both of Cecilia; and great-grandchildren, Anistyn Hurst, Easton Hurst, and Hudson Hurst, all of Louisville, KY.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Noe' Robert and Jeanne Bertrand Robert; father and mother-in-law, Volma and Osiana Beniot Landry; brothers, Simon Robert and Luke Robert; and sister-in-law, Bertha Bower Robert.
Pallbearers will be Troy Gardiner, Corey Gardiner, Larry Landry Jr., Larry Landry Sr., Robert Bobby Landry, Kirby Landry, and Logan Landry.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jamie Calais, Lawson Calais, C.J. Thibodeaux, Andrew Hankins, Joseph Ballantine, and Samuel Ballantine.
