St. Martinville - On Wednesday, August 5, 2020, God lovingly declared that the work of His faithful servant was done.
Odell Trahan was born on November 16, 1944 to Freda and Audrey Trahan. He was also raised by his step-father, the Reverend Curley Babineaux and grandparents Hazel and Cornelious Broussard.
Odell’s walk with God began at an early age. As the great grandson of a preacher and later the son of a Reverend, Odell sought God and learned to serve him through various roles and seasons in life. As a husband, father, grandfather, nephew, brother, uncle, friend, colleague, and loved one, Odell strived to be a provider and to help others who were in need. He remained active as the Head Usher at Mallalieu United Methodist Church and continued with the beloved brotherhood of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
Though social, Odell also embraced his alone time with God. He believed in God’s existence, power, and love. He understood that his life was in God’s hands and knew that he would never leave if his loved ones had a choice. Odell honored God’s decision as he went lovingly into His arms.
Odell graduated from Southern University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s Degree in Education, and a Master’s +30 in Administration and Supervision. He believed that education increased the opportunities afforded to people and sought to instill that belief in the ones he loved.
Odell retired from the education system after working 33 years for the St. Martin Parish School Board as a teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal, and Supervisor. He also worked at the Louisiana Technical College (Evangeline Campus) as the TANF Program Director. Committed to serving, Odell also retired as an elected official, serving approximately 12 years as a Police Juror, Parish Councilman, and Election Commissioner. Lastly, he also retired from the St. Martin Parish Sheriff Department.
He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father Freda and Curley Babineaux, his father Audrey Trahan, grandparents Cornelius and Hazel Broussard, two uncles Cornelius Jr (CJ) and Otis Broussard, and one aunt Versa Marie Mouton.
His life will be forever cherished and honored by his family, loved ones, and faithful friends. Though his physical presence will be missed, his love, teachings, and memories will remain. We are forever grateful to God for lending us His son. We acknowledge that God continues to be God and that He has lovingly welcomed His son back home. Until we meet again… We love you.
