Orval Leland Watson

Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 17, 2010, in Pellerin Funeral Home Chapel, for Orval Leland Watson, 90, who passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at his residence. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge. Father Louis Allen Breaux will officiate at the funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Mary Elizabeth Latiolais and Remie Cormier. Gift Bearers will be Liz and Leon Angelle. Mr. Watson was a veteran of World War II, having honorably served his country in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Major upon his retirement. He was retired as a supervisor with the New Orleans Public Service Commission and was also retired with the U.S. Army Reserve. Orval was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and a charter member of the World War II Museum. On October 6, 2007, he was privileged to be a part of the Louisiana Honor Air flight to Washington, D.C. - it was a memorable trip for him - one that he would never forget. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed telling jokes to his family and friends. He also loved to read, play golf, go bowling, and treasured the many times he could spend with his grandsons. Survivors include his daughter, Cheryl Latiolais and her husband, Dr. Terry Latiolais, of Breaux Bridge; a grandson, Jared Latiolais and his wife, Mary Elizabeth; and three sisters, Nadean Johnson of Dothan, AL, Vaughndalee Willard of Ardmore, OK, and Anita Gay Barret and her husband, J.M., of Topeka, KS. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirleymae Kramer Watson; his grandson, Brandon Joseph Latiolais; his parents, Samuel Everett Watson and Ura Watson Stapleton; a brother, James E. Watson; and a sister, Beatrice Ratliff. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday and continue at 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to L.S.U. Foundation, Brandon Latiolais Scholarship Fund, 3838 W. Lakeshore Dr., Baton Rouge, LA 70808. Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge (337.332.2199) is in charge of arrangements.
