Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Wednesday, August10, 2011, at Pellerin Funeral Home Chapel in Breaux Bridge , for Mr. Orvy Guidry, 84, who passed away on Friday, August 5, 2011.
Fr. Michael Arnaud will officiate at the funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Mike Fontentot. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
Mr. Guidry was a veteran of World War II, having honorably served his country in the United States Coast Guard. He was a general contractor for many years before his retirement, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
In his free time he enjoyed keeping up with the maintenance of his apartments in Breaux Bridge - he loved keeping busy. An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Guidry enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping in and around south Louisiana . He routinely visited McDonald's in the morning to have coffee with his friends, while sharing with them how proud he was of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.
Mr. Guidry and his wife, Gloria, whom he adored and admired, loved to dance the night away at local clubs. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Gloria Strother Guidry of Breaux Bridge; his sons, Randal Paul Guidry and his wife, Charlotte, of Omaha, NE, and Michael Keith Guidry and his wife, Charlene, of Alexandria; his daughter, Deirdre Guidry LeBlanc and her husband, Dale, of Scottsbluff, NE; one brother, Fred Guidry and his wife, Lilia Mae, of St. Rose, LA; four sisters, Dorothy Courville, Evelyn Latiolais, both of Breaux Bridge, Ramona Castex of Metairie, and Ruscilla Salamone of Hammond; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Brady K. Guidry; his parents, Caliste and Marie Dupuis Guidry; three sisters, Solonge Morris, Beatrice Guidry, and Bernice Guidry; three brothers, Herband, Andrew, and Curtis Guidry; and his daughter-in-law, Amanda Daigle Guidry.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 2:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday and continue on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m.
A Prayer Service will be conducted by Deacon Judice and his wife, Jan, at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Arnaud, Kyle Arnaud, Jason Guidry, Randal Guidry, Michael Guidry, and Jimmy Castex.
