Pamelia (Pam) Irene Hinton Thornton beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2015.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 PM Friday, August 28, 2015 at St. Peters Catholic Church with Rev. Nicholas DuPre as the Celebrant.
Entombment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be Friday from 8:00 AM until 12:30 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 10:00 AM Friday.
She was born in New Iberia on February 15, 1942. She graduated from Mt. Carmel Academy, attended U.S.L. and then completed her studies at cosmetology school. After which she opened her own beauty parlor.
Later, after time as a stay at home mother, she worked for the Iberia Parish School Board as a Special Education Teachers Aide and High School Secretary at New Iberia Senior High School, from which she retired with twenty six years of service.
Pam was deeply involved with reading and rosary groups. She also sang in the St. Peters Church Choir. Pam was also a member of Kappa Iota, an education organization.
She especially enjoyed reading, sewing, travelling, boating, fishing, and spending time at the beach.
She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi and was selected as one of their Valentine Sweethearts. Pam was also a maid in the Krewe of Andalusia and the Mystic Krewe of Iberians Mardi Gras Balls.
She was preceded in death by her father Charles Hillman Hinton and her mother Emily Marie Doumit Hinton.
She is survived by her husband Lyman (Butch) E. Thornton, Jr.of New Iberia and her sister Mary Jo Hinton Manning also of New Iberia. She also leaves behind her children Lyman E. Thornton, III and wife Edith, of Baton Rouge, Charles Hinton Thornton and wife Ann, of Lafayette, and Pamelia Emily Thornton Cuccia and husband Mike of Baton Rouge.
Other survivors are her six grandchildren: Bradley and Jacob Thornton, Hinton and Mitchell Thornton, Emily and Rebecca Cuccia along with several nieces, nephews and many cousins. Also she leaves in our care her little dog Taffy.
The family would like to give special thanks to her caregivers Janice Barideaux, Adelisha Broussard, Glenasha Polk, and her many Doctors and Nurses.
