Jeanerette Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, November 22, 2013, at First Jerusalem Baptist Church in Jeanerette, for Pastor Ronald Jackson, Sr., 56, who died on Monday, November 10, 2014 in Houma.
Interment will follow in the Elijah Merritte Eterenal Rest Cemetery in Jeanerette.
A gathering of family and friends will be Friday from 4:00 PM until 11:00 AM Saturday at First Good Hope Baptist Church in Jeanerette. Visitation will continue from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM Saturday at First Jerusalem Baptist Church in Jeanerette.
A native and lifelong resident of Jeanerette, Pastor Jackson was born on October 21, 1958 to Rufus and Queen Esther Merritte Jackson, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He served as a police officer in St. Mary Parish and Iberia Parish for many years, and then began pastoring in his church, First Good Hope Baptist Church in Jeanerette. His hobbies included fishing, photography, carpentry, and riding his motorcycle.
Survivors include his children, Ronald Jackson, Jr. and wife Nakita of Ft. Still, Oklahoma, Brandy Batiste and husband Rindall of Jeanerette, Corey Brandon Jackson, Sr. of Jeanerette; brother, Clarence Jackson and wife Brenda of Houston; sister, Shirley Little of Houston; mother-in-law, Sylvina White Key of Jeanerette; father-in-law, Roland Alexander, Sr. of Jeanerette; special friend, Garnet Fergus of Jeanerette; several grandchildren, including four that were very special to him, Corryel Jackson, Ronnie Celestine, Jr., Brandne Celestine, and Brandnya Celestine.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gail Marie Alexander Jackson; grandson, Corey Brandon Jackson, Jr.; brothers, Peter Jackson, Robert Lee Jackson, Russell Jackson; and a sister, Patricia Ann Jackson Kyle.
