New Iberia - Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, on Thursday, March 24, 2016, at Holy Family Cemetery in New Iberia, for Peter Benson Jr., 84, who passed away on Monday, March 21, 2016, in New Iberia. A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A longtime resident of New Iberia, Mr. Benson was born on February 7, 1932 to Peter Benson and Esther Kennedy. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army, and retired as an Assistant Fire Chief from the New Iberia Fire Department. Mr. Benson enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. Survivors include his wife, Beverly Daspit Benson of New Iberia; daughters, Marcia Ferguson and husband Shawn of New Iberia, June Jensen of Galveston, Texas; sons, Bill Benson and wife Lisa of Baton Rouge, Richard Benson and Lynn Prejean of New Iberia, Dustin Benson and wife Kristie of Broussard; brother, Johnny Schexnayder and wife Joyce of New Iberia; sister, Jeannie McDonald of New Iberia,; grandchildren, Summer Jensen and spouse Neil Monson, Brennan Benson, Braelyn Benson, Piper Benson; great grandchildren, Phoenix Monson, Colt Monson, Logan Benson, Payton Benson, Finn Benson. Survivors also included several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Benson, and a sister, Barbara LeBlanc. Pallbearers will be Richard Benson, Bill Benson, Dustin Benson, Brennan Benson, Shawn Ferguson, and Neal Monson. Honorary pallbearer will be Johnny Schexnayder.
