Philip “Dup” Thevenet was a lifelong resident of Breaux Bridge where he raised two children and was married for 52 years to Harriet Thibodeaux Thevenet. In addition to spending his free time joking with family and friends, Dup was an avid runner until later in life and enjoyed competing in road races. He also followed in his father’s footsteps and tended a small herd of cattle for over 20 years, dedicating many weekends to their care. More recently Dup enjoyed visiting the casino with Harriet where he could usually be found by the craps table. As a professional, he cared deeply about people and became a social worker. He would become a fixture at Tyler Mental Health Center where he started his career as a social worker but went on to become the hospital’s administrator and ultimately retired as the director of mental health services for DHH Region 4. He was proud of the work he had done to help remove the stigma of mental illness in our area. He also supported many mental health organizations including The Extra Mile, Family and Friends, and Family Tree.
He is survived by his son, Philip "Bo" (Nicole "Nikki") Thevenet of Arlington, VA; daughter, Angela "Angel" (Dwayne) Quebedeaux of Prairieville, LA; four grandchildren, Madelyn "Maddie" Quebedeaux, Lauren Quebedeaux, Philip Bryce Thevenet, and Beckett Edward Thevenet; sister, Sedonia Louise Belaire and her late husband, Harold; and two brothers, David Dale Thevenet and Joel Andre (Dorothy) Thevenet.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Harriet Ann Thevenet; and his parents, Philip and Irene Dupuis Thevenet.
