Breaux Bridge - A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge for Preston B. Hammons.
A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Breaux Bridge on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of service at 2:00 pm.
A procession will take place at 12:45 pm on Thursday, February 13, 2025 from Pellerin Funeral Home in Breaux Bridge to Lafayette Memorial Park, where he will be laid to rest in the mausoleum at 1:30 pm.
Deacon Mike Thompson will officiate at the Funeral Service.
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Preston Bryan Hammons, age 82, on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, in Lafayette, LA. Raised in Delhi, LA the son of Robert and Florence, Preston worked as a radio disc jockey at KEUN and KVOL after high school.
A natural salesman, Preston would go on to work in the insurance industry and settled in Covington, LA where he and Marie raised their two children. He had a passion for emceeing events and volunteering in the community. Preston was the "Voice of the Wolves" at St. Paul's High School for several years. From football to basketball games his voice would echo off the gym walls and throughout Covington. For over 35 years he was the announcer for the St. Peter's fair, an event he cherished. He was also active in the Krewe of Olympia, a lectern for St. Peter's Church.
Preston enjoyed time with family, making memories with his grandkids and riding in his Miata with his best friend, Marie. After moving to Lafayette he enjoyed a standing Sunday date with his granddaughter Olivia. Paw Pres was the name given to him by his beloved grandchildren, and he will be dearly missed by Olivia, Rhett and Jaxton. Upon his passing, Paw-Pres was greeted by his grandson Rhodes Bryan Hammons.
Preston is survived by one son, Stephen Hammons and wife, Ashley of Broussard; one daughter, Stephanie Salinas and husband, Ernesto of Gilroy, CA; and three grandchildren, Jaxton Salinas and Olivia & Rhett Hammons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Florence Hammons; his sisters, Betty Williams and Thelma Frost-Williams; and his brother, Bob Hammons; his best friend, Marie Genin Hammons; and his grandson, Rhodes Hammons.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the St. Paul's School at 917 South Jahncke, Covington, LA 70433. Or Hope Healthcare and Hospice 301 E. Kaliste Saloom Road, Lafayette, LA 70508.
Pellerin Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
