Catahoula - Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 20, 2005, at Dion Hall in Catahoula for Preston Melancon, 84, who died Friday, August 12, 2005 in Houma.
Interment will be in Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery in Catahoula.
Mr. Melancon was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army. He was a member of American Legion Post 293 in Catahoula. He was an honorary member of the Catahoula Fire Department and a member of Jenkin's Memorial Baptist Church in St. Martinville.
Survivors include one son, Douglas J. Melancon and his wife, Brenda of Houma; one brother, Clifton Melancon and his wife Shirley of Lafayette, his grandchildren, Ben Melancon and his wife Denice, of Houma, Pamela Melancon LaForge and her husband Derrick of Houma, Jessica Melancon of St. Martinville; and two great grandchildren, Matthew Derrick LaForge and Morgan Elizabeth Melancon, both of Houma.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Comb Melancon; his parents, Henri and Mathilde LeBlanc Melancon; one son, Lercy Melancon; one brother, Steven Melancon; and one sister, Yoland Melancon Curry.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM, Friday, August 19, 2005 and continue at 8:00 AM, Saturday, August 20, 2005 until time of service at Dion Hall in Catahoula.
