Ralph Olivier passed away at St. Francis Nursing Home in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, on Thursday Feb. 5 with loving family at his side. He was a resident of St. Martinville for 75 years of his life. He worked at Levert St. John, Angola and Cinclaire Sugar Mills and spent his last 17 years before retirement at M.A. Patout & Son Sugar Company. In 2001, after 55 years of marriage, his wife Mary Rose passed away. On November 29, 2002, he married Marion Breaux in Wisconsin. Her husband, Willie Breaux, had passed away just five weeks after Mary Rose. After his marriage, Ralph became a resident of Wisconsin and a member of Lighthouse Christian Church in Fond du Lac.
He had been a kind and loving husband to his first wife Mary Rose, a gentle and caring father to his three daughters, and a loving grandfather and great-grandfather to his grandchildren. He brought all of those loving, compassionate qualities into his second marriage, but Ralph was a Man on a Journey and that journey was a hunger to know God better. Along with his wife, he began to study Gods word and he never strayed from that path. He enjoyed life in Wisconsin, loved the rolling hills and the deep valleys, the beauty of farms and fields that he saw along the way as we drove around the countryside. He got to see the mountains on the West Coast, stand on Mt. St. Helens, ride the ferries on Puget Sound, view the Pacific Ocean and enjoy all of the beauty of Gods creation.
In the last years of his full life, he was afflicted with Alzheimers and sadly spent the last five months in a nursing home, but even there he was a blessing. He received a baby doll from his daughter which he lovingly cuddled, kissed and sang to. All of the nursing staff at St. Francis Home were moved by those expressions of love. They said that they had never seen a man like Ralph and they respected and loved him. The Right to Life organization had a large billboard along our major highway saying Real Men Love Babies and he represented that statement so well. Even though his mind had been ravaged by Alzheimers disease, when he left this earth to go home to his Father in heaven, he left behind a great legacy that will never be forgotten. In Psalm 71:18 is a prayer that expresses it. Even when I am old and grey, do not forsake me, O God, 'til I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come. Ralph Olivier will be remembered and loved as a man who put a relationship with God as his top priority.
He is survived by his loving wife Marion, his beloved daughters: Barbara (Dave) Dupuy, Juanita Miller (Olivier), Delia (Keith) Guidry; his treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Barney (Debbie) Gonsoulin, Ginger (Ken) Romero, Landen Miller, Preston (Sara) Guidry, Margo Guidry (fianc Brady Lee), and Ben Guidry.
