Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m, on Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at St. Bernard Roman Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Ralph J. Roberts, 82, who passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2008.
Entombment will follow at St. Bernard Mausoleum No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
Reverend Fr. Louis Allen Breaux, Assosiate Pastor of St. Bernard Church, will conduct the services. Gift Bearers will be Meagan P. Roberts and Michele A. Roberts.
Mr. Roberts was a decorated veteran of the United States Navy, having honorably served his country in World War II as a Seaman First Class. He served aboard the U.S.S. Warrick and participated in initial landings of occupation at the Philippine Islands and Iwo Jima.
Mr. Roberts worked as an oil field contractor for 25 years and Martin Mills for 15 years where he retired in November of 1990. His most treasured times were those spent with family. He was an avid gardener who also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 54 years, Susan Huval Roberts; his sons, Glen J. Roberts and his wife, Anita, of Parks, Chris J. Roberts and his wife, Donna, of St. Martinville, Keith Roberts and his wife, Kathy, of Cecilia; his daughters, Mona Roberts Lewis and her husband, Marty, of Cecilia and Sonya M. Roberts, of Lafayette; his seven grandchildren, Joshua P. Roberts, Trent J. Roberts, Travis J. Roberts, Meagan P. Roberts, Michele A. Roberts, Micah J. Roberts and Sye Robert Royston; and one great-granddaughter, Cadence N. Roberts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adam "Coulou" and Edola Thibodeaux Roberts; paternal grandparents Oscar and Elizabeth Huval Roberts; maternal grandparents, Oscar and Theodiste Cormier Thibodeaux, Sr.; and his sisters, Elaine Cormier, Alta Roberts Durio and Elisia Roberts Guidry.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 1:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 and continue at 7:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Glen J. Roberts, Chris J. Roberts, Keith J. Roberts, Marty P. Lewis, Alvin Cormier, Trent J. Roberts, Joshua P. Roberts and Travis J. Roberts.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jay Royston, Micah P. Roberts and Sye Robert Royston.
Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge is in charge of arrangements.
