Randy was born in Lafayette and graduated from Holy Savior Menard Central High School in Alexandria, La and Alexandria Welding Academy. For his adult life, he was a resident of Parks, La. Randy started a welding company at the age of 16 and worked in the oilfield for over 40 years. Over the last few years, he worked at John Paul the Great Academy, his children’s alma mater and school. Randy was known for his singular generosity, humility, and kindhearted attitude. He frequently told stories and shared the Gospel bringing Christ´s love to many who had never experienced it before. The fruits of his apostolic work were abundant. His greatest commitment was to his family, church, and friends which was evident in his tireless service to them. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church (Parks), and in 1993 became involved in the Cursillo Movement and Ultreya. Randy spoke and taught by example often about our call to carry crosses and the beauty and graces they can bring, and his dying wish for his family and friends was that they live always in sanctifying grace. Randy loved French Music, especially Belton Richard, and he had a passion for hunting and fishing with his father, a love that he shared with his kids and grandkids. The Adoration Chapel and deer stand were Randy’s two favorite places.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret “Ponnie” Peltier Melancon; two daughters, Olivia Patin (Ian) and Sophia; six sons, Mark (Denise), Patrick (Sarah), Lane, Louis, Stephen, and Dominic; his mother Rhena Touchet Melancon and five grandchildren: James, Maria, Jacob, Ella, Ruby.
