VIEW VIDEO TRIBUTE Coteau - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Coteau for Ray Allen Joseph Bonin, 73, who died Sunday, December 13, 2009 in Coteau. Entombment will follow in the Memorial Park Mausoleum in New Iberia. Rev. Barry Crochet will be the Celebrant. A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mr. Bonin died Sunday, December 13, 2009 at 6:26 a.m. at home in the care of his family. Ray was happily married to Jeanette Duhon Bonin for 55 years. He served in the National Guard for 8 years and received an honorable discharge as Corporal in Company G 156th Infantry, and was retired after 40 years of employment with E. P. Breaux Electrical as an Electrical Foreman. After retiring, he went to work part-time with Iberia Medical Center in maintenance and then as a courier. An avid reader, Mr. Bonin enjoyed western books,movies, classic country music as well as French music. He was very proud of his French heritage. He loved visiting and drinking coffee with friends at Food -N- Fun on Hwy 90 in Coteau, and graciously and generously donated platelets and plasma and whole blood regularly with United Blood Services. He loved helping family and friends with anything he could be of service with, and had great pride in educating himself. After 30 years of being out of school, he went on to receive his G.E.D and then, successfully completed drafting classes at LA Technical School. Survivors include his wife Jeanette Duhon Bonin; four daughters, Louise "Do" Bonin of New Iberia, Wanda Rose and husband, Darcy of Tulsa OK, Sandi East and husband, John of New Iberia, Donna Duran-Dwyer, and husband, Bobby of New Iberia, two sons, Darryl Bonin of New Iberia, Dwayne Bonin and wife, Billie Jo of New Iberia; eleven grandchildren, Heather Henry Derouen and husband Trent, Ryan East, Jakob Duran, Keira Henry and fiance Jarrod Bellard, Shaney East, Kalie Romero and fiance Brandon, Dylan Rose, Kelci Bonin, Wesly Dwyer, Tyler Bonin, Lukas Dwyer; four great grandchildren, Brianne Derouen, Tristin Derouen, Karson Hargrave and Jonah Ray Derouen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Sedonia B. Bonin, two brothers, Ernest Bonin Sr. and E. G. Bonin, one sister, Evelyn Bonin Bourque. Pallbearers will be nephews, Ronnie Duhon, Craig Duhon, Mike Delahoussaye, Buddy Delahoussaye, Ernest Bonin, Jr., and Kevin Bonin. Honorary Pallbearers will be grandsons, Ryan and Shaney East, Jakob Duran, Dylan Rose, Wesly and Lukas Dwyer. Altar Boy will be grandson, Tyler Bonin. Lector will be daughter-in-law, Billie Jo Bonin. Musician will be Gene Picard. Memorial contributions may be made to Journey Hospice, 101 La Rue France, Ste. 102, Lafayette, LA 70508. A gathering of family and friends will be Monday from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Monday by the Men's Cursillio and musician Gene Picard. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 8:00 AM until 10:15 AM.
