Ray was a military veteran having served his country in the US Army as a young man in the '60's. Mr. Schexnider began working early in life with C.F. Bean and other Dredging and Boating Companies. On some occasions, he was overseas working in Africa and the Bahamas as well as in the waters of this country. He worked both with his father and also alone as a rice farmer, a crawfish farmer, and a hay farmer. He is known for having some of the most desirable hay available in the Acadiana area. He loved horses and racing and usually had something in training or on the track most of the time, a passion he inherited from his father and participated in with other family members. He was also a regular at Little Capital in Cecilia where he enjoyed spending time with his friends drinking coffee and discussing the racing business and other interests. Ray was devoted to his children and worked hard to provide for them in every way he could, even if it meant going into the wilds or dangerous lands and being away from family for extended periods of time.
