Breaux Bridge - A Memorial service will be celebrated at 1 pm on Saturday, April 25, 2015, at Pellerin Funeral Home for Raymond Maurice Castille, 87, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 22, 2015.
The family requests visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 9:30 am until 12:45 pm the time of service. Deacon Butch Hebert will officiate. Scriptures will be read by his grandchildren, Kristen McFaul Callais and Brandon Schmidt.
Raymond honorably served his country in the United States Air Force and Air Force Reserve, and was a member of the Arnold Air Society. He was a graduate of SLI, now ULL, having earned a Bachelors and Masters plus 30 degree in Education. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, a professional education fraternity, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Breaux Bridge Lion's Club, where he achieved the designation of Ten Year - Old Monarch. He was chairman of the Breaux Bridge Centennial Celebration in 1959 and the first Crawfish Festival in 1960. In 1995, he was inducted into the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival Association Hall of Fame.
As a teacher and supervisor with the St. Martin Parish School Board for 28 years, Raymond taught French and Social Studies early in his career. He went on to supervise Maintenance and Transportation and retired as Director of Child Welfare and Attendance. After retirement from the school board, he worked part-time for the Louisiana Department of Education in Baton Rouge.
Raymond enjoyed cooking, traveling out West to visit national parks and monuments, and spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Maxine McManus Castille, two daughters, Angela McFaul and her husband, Robert, of Breaux Bridge, and Leah Schmidt and her husband, Rodney, of Lafayette; one brother, Richard Castille and his wife, Shannon, of Church Point; five grandchildren, Kristen McFaul Callais and her husband, Ryckman, Regan McFaul, Erin McFaul, Brandon Schmidt and Michael Schmidt; two sisters-in-law, Charlene McManus Broussard and Dorothy Jean Delhomme Castille, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Moise and Angelina Broussard Castille; two brothers, Melvin Castille and Carlton "Kit" Castille; two sisters, Lorraine Lopez and Lula Mae Bienvenu; father-in-law, Thomas J. McManus and mother-in-law, Merelia Regan McManus.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Benjamin Degatur, the staff of St. Agnes Nursing Home and Bridgeway Hospice for their loving and helpful care.
