BREAUX BRIDGE - A service of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 1:30 pm at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana for Renella Guidry Simon. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery #2 . The family requests that visitation be observed at Pellerin Funeral Home in Breaux Bridge on Sunday, October 14, 2018, from 9:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. A rosary will be prayed at 12:30 pm on Sunday, October 14, 2018. Cherishing Renella’s memory are Carl, her beloved husband of 65 years; her four daughters, Carleen Simon Yates, Karen Simon Durio, and Simone Simon, all of Breaux Bridge, Renee Michel Simon Babineaux and her husband Kip of New Iberia; seven grandchildren, Lauren Durio Talliferro and spouse Raley, Caroline DeJean, Natalie DeJean, Alexandra Yates, Maggie Durio Alberry and her husband Alan, Shelby Kate Babineaux and Sydney Babineaux; three great grandchildren, Emma Alberry, Crew Alberry and Whitman Talliferro. Renella was preceded in death by her parents, Dalton (Papit) Guidry, Bertha (Mamit) Huval Guidry, sister, Jackie Barras, brother Roy Guidry, nephew and godchild Tony Barras, and lastly her daughter Liz Simon DeJean. Born on December 15, 1932, in Grand Anse, Louisiana and a lifelong resident of Breaux Bridge, Renella M. Guidry Simon, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving and devoted family on October 10, 2018 at The Carpenter House. Renella graduated from Cecilia High School in 1951. As strong as she was beautiful, Renella tirelessly devoted her life to her husband and family. Affectionately known as “La Soeur,” she was an accomplished gardener, florist, cook, homemaker and collector. Renella was known for her timeless style, vigorous spirit, infinite drive and immeasurable love. She always strove to make everything better in life. Renella enjoyed the games of Bourrée and bowling and loved traveling and lunching with Club 51. In her more active years, Renella was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters of America, Home Demonstration Club, Crawfish Festival Queen’s Committee and served as Vice President of the Crawfish Festival Merchants Association. Renella was inducted into the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival Hall of Fame, in 2004 Teche News Woman of the Year and was awarded Garden of the Month on several occasions. The interests that brought her the most joy were decorating her home for Christmas, cooking for the Crawfish Festivals and Sunday Dinners for her family and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Kip Babineaux, Dr. Scott Guidry, Ed Barras, Dr. Kirby Guidry, Terry Boyd and Brian Crutchfield. Gift bearers will be her four daughters. Scripture readers will be Lauren Durio Talliferro, Caroline DeJean and Shelby Kate Babineaux The Simon family extends a heartfelt appreciation to her loving caregivers, Sophie Guidroz, Ametra Joseph, Emma Champagne, Norma Broussard and Jane Fontenette, as well as Elba Davis and Otelia Leblanc, and all of her compassionate friends and relatives for their undying spiritual and emotional support. The family would also like to acknowledge Dr. Michael Alexander and his caring staff; Hospice of Acadiana and their caring staff; as well as The Carpenter House and their caring staff.
