Entombment will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends Monday from 5:30 PM until 9:30 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until 12:30 PM.
A native of Houston, Don graduated from North Central Bible College in 1948 and married his sweetheart, Sophia Morel in 1949. He spent 57 years in full time service to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ pioneering and serving 7 churches in Texas, Ohio and Louisiana. The Neel family moved to New Iberia in 1970 to serve as pastors of First Assembly of God church. Pop Neel pastored First Assembly until his retirement in 1989.
Pop enjoyed riding dirt bikes, snow skiing and woodworking in his spare time.
He is survived by the love of his life, Sophia, their 2 sons and their wives, Rev. Paul & Lynn Neel and Rev. John & Monica Neel; 4 grandchildren, Kari Neel LeBlanc and husband Lance, Kelly Neel, Kristopher Neel, and wife Courtney, Kristen Neel and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents, Lloyd and Doris Kennedy Neel.
Pallbearers will be Lance LeBlanc, Mark Landry, Glen LeBlanc, Darrell Dore, Rev. Guy Lavergne, and Tony Malachino.
Honorary pallbearers include Edwin Corky Randolph, Rev. Mark Shiveley, Wallace Boogie Bonin, Rev. Anthony Freeman, Ira Buddy Morel, and Charlie Mahoney.
Memorial contributions may be made to Assembly Christian Center to support projects that were dear to Pops heart.
