St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm, on Monday, March 28, 2016, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Richard L. de la Houssaye, 62, who passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2016.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 9:00 am on Monday, and continue on until service time.
A rosary will be prayed at 11:00 am on Monday.
Rev. Rusty Richard will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be Vicky Martin and Mike Formeller. Gift Bearers will be Alex and Taylor de la Houssaye.
Interment will follow at St. Michael Mausoleum in St. Martinville.
Richard was a graduate of Catholic High School in New Iberia and received his BA from Louisiana State University. He earned his MA in public administration, also from Louisiana State University. Richard worked as a state analyst for the State Legislature. He then established his own business, ORTCA, in Breaux Bridge. He was elected to the Republican State Central Committee.
Mr. de la Houssaye was a member of the Rotary Club and was the President in 2002-2003. He reigned as captain of the Rotary's Carnival Ball and then as King LXI of the Ball. Richard loved playing tennis, cooking for family and friends, spending time with his dad and helping his son, Alex, in his baseball career. The greatest love of his life was his family.
He is survived by his loving spouse of 29 years, Janis Fortenberry de la Houssaye; daughter, Taylor E. de la Houssaye; son, Alexander H. de la Houssaye and brother, Harry Delahoussaye, Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Hazel Delahoussaye, Sr.
Pallbearers will be David Fortenberry, George Speckman, Pat Caffery, Pat Martin, Louis Durand, Buddy Hebert, Paul Delahoussaye, and Jacques Cousin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Rombach, Chuck Duchamp, James Bienvenu, the Rotary Club, and the staff at Opiate Replacement Therapy Center of America.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Richard's name to, Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Ste. 200, Lafayette, LA 70503, or to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011
