A gathering of family and friends will be Friday from 8:30 am until 2:00 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary, led by the Mens Rosary Group, will be recited at 11:00 am Friday.
Richard was born in Breaux Bridge and was a longtime resident of New Iberia, until he moved to St. Martin Parish a decade ago. He passed away on Monday morning, February 5, 2018 in a boating accident on Bayou Benoit. Richard was affectionately called Crash by his many family and friends.
He worked in the oilfield industry for more than 35 years. Richard always had a smile on his face and he never met a stranger everyone was a friend. He had a passion for old cars, fixing broken things for people, and loved riding motorcycles. His hobbies included fishing, boating, and a variety of music, especially Elvis. Richard loved to be around children and was known as the Candy Man. He also loved to cook and entertain his family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Margaret Aucoin Pellerin; sister, Leah Pellerin Ford of Portland, OR; stepbrothers, Chad Pellerin and wife Lindsay of Youngsville, Kevin Pellerin of New Iberia; wife's parents, Larry and Janice Perez Aucoin of New Iberia; brother-in-law, Larry Aucoin, Jr. and wife Judy Tilley Aucoin of Moss Bluff; sister-in-laws, Karen A. Hoffpauir and husband Dwayne of New Iberia, Mary A. Landry and husband Ernest "Joey" Landry, Jr. of New Iberia, Ann A. Rogers and husband Jason of New Iberia, Diann A. LeBlanc and husband Ty of New Iberia; half-brother, Gregory Vasseur of Eunice; 8 nephews, 11 nieces, 5 great nieces, and 2 great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Lee Pellerin, Sr., and his mother, Carol Jean Guidry Vasseur.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Aucoin, Cameron Pellerin, Dave Blanchard, Sammy Thibodeaux, Richard Landry, and Richard Daigle.
The Pellerin and Aucoin families would like to gratefully give their special thanks to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries, the Iberia Parish Sheriff Department, the St. Martin Parish Sheriff Department, and to all family and special friends that aided in the search and rescue effort to bring back Richard. No words can express our gratitude for your selfless efforts.
