Loving Husband, Dad, Grandfather, Father in Law and Brother New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mr, Riley Bernard Roy, known as "Gramps" by his loving grandchildren, at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 21, 2008, at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Langlois as the Celebrant. Readers for the mass will be Brenda Stevens and Gayle Thorne, close friends of the Roy family. Gift bearers will be Briley Roy and Braeden Dore'. Entombment will follow in Holy Family Mausoleum. Riley was called home by God on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at 12:10 p.m. He died peacefully at home with his family by his side after a short battle with kidney cancer. Rily was born in Eunice, Louisiana on February 7, 1945 to Celestein "B.O." and Ruby Peloquin Roy. He graduated from Eunice High School in May of 1964. In 1967 he met his true love, Gloria and in 1970 they were married. They had four children, three boys and one girl. He was a wonderful husband , dad, grandfather, father-in-law and brother. He was a hard worker, having worked as a mechanic for Tracy's Auto Specialists for 32 years, which he had recently retired from on June 2, 2007. He enjoyed spending time with his family, helping others in their time of need, listening to French and country music, working on cars and lawnmowers. He also enjoyed sitting outside watching his grandchildren play and ride four wheelers. Riley, at the age of 15, served as a flag boy at Eunice school. He heroically saved the life of a young child by pushing him out of the way of an oncoming vehicle. His leg was trapped between the car and a school bus. He spent 3 years in and out of the hospital having numerous surgeries. He was honored on his 16th birthday for his act of heroism. He is survived by his loving and caring wife of 38 years, Gloria Lasseigne Roy; three sons, Kerry Roy and his wife Tina Ransonet, Brian Roy and his friend Todd Labit, Chad Roy and his wife Cindy Musumeche, all of New Iberia, one daughter Shanna Dore' and her husband Ryan Marshall of New Iberia; seven grandchildren, who were the joy of his life, Dusti Ransonet, Joshua Roy, Briley Roy, Braeden Dore', Holden Dore', Colin Roy and Cameron Roy, all of New Iberia; his mother in law, Cecile Lasseigne of New Iberia; his brothers, Tony Roy and his wife Elaine of Lafayette, Garland Roy of Baton Rouge, his sisters, Raynell Rougeau and her husband Eric, Rhonda LeFleur and her husband Dolan, both of Eunice; his sister in law Mary Lee Viator of New Iberia, godchildren, Tony Rougeau of Sulphur, Marty Roy of Lafayette and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Celestein "B.O." Roy and Ruby Peloquin Roy; his brother, Russell Doise; his father in law Dozit "Black" Lasseigne; his brother in laws, Ray P. Viator, Mark Medlin and his nephew Ricky Viator. A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday, from 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:15 PM Sunday. Visitation will continue Monday from 8:00 AM until 2:30 PM. Pallbearers will be his children, Kerry, Brian, Chad and Shanna, and his godchildren, Tony Rougeau and Marty Roy. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Dusti, Joshua, Briley, Braeden, Holden, Colin, Cameron and his brothers, Tony and Garland. The family would like to express a special thank you to Hospice of Acadiana, especially Iggy Landry, Yvette LeBlanc, Kathy Guidry, Mrs. Lou, Deacon Davis, Father Champagne, Mrs. Elaine and Mrs. Doris for caring and the kindness that was given to our loved one during his illness.
