St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 19, 2006, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville for Rita Rose Chretien, 81, who died Saturday, August 12, 2006 at her residence.
Interment will be in St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Mrs. Chretien loved babysitting and attending activities with the St. Martin Parish Council on Aging. ?She enjoyed cooking her favorite family recipes.
Survivors include her sons, Willie Chretien, Sr. and his wife, Gertrude of New Iberia, Ronald Chretien, Sr. and his wife, Brenda, Antoine Chretien and his wife, Barbara Nell, and Eddie Chretien, all of Cade; her daughters, Barbara Celestine and her husband, Howard of Cade, Beverly Rixner of New Orleans, Mary Lorena Chretien, Laura Fontenette, and Dianna Darby and her husband, Bobby, all of Cade; her brothers, Eddie Filer and Martin Edward Filer, both of Galveston, TX; her sisters, Mary Belva Anthony of St. Martinville and Melva Lewis of Lake Charles; twenty grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; and a host of loved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Escorn Chretien; her parents, Mary Skipper and Adam Filer, Sr.; her son-in-laws, Percy Rixner and Roy Fontenette, Jr.; her brother, Adam Filer, Jr.; her sisters, Rena Mae Batiste, Theresa Fontenette, and Mary Margaret Polite; her grandson, Antoine Chretien, Jr.; and her great granddaughter, Tarra Celestine.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 7:00 a.m. on Saturday and continue until time of service.
Pallbearers will be Wilfred Chretien, Craig Chretien, Roy Chretien, Ryan Fontenette, Ronald Chretien, Jr., and Carroll Dugas.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jermaine Chretien, Chardwick Reynolds, Towaski Fontenette, Jones Fontenette, Kervin Fontenette, Carl Jacobs, Terrell St. Julien, and Steven Thomas.
