New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Iberia, for Rita Bonin Landry, 80, who passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2010 in New Iberia. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend D. Blaine Clement will officiate. Rita was a member of various organizations such as the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in New Iberia, the American Business Women's Association, and a member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Rita enjoyed sewing, gardening, and cooking for her family. Her favorite hobby of all was to spend time with her grandchildren and travel with her friends. She truly was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Survivors include her husband, Wesley John Landry of New Iberia; one son, Justin Wayne Landry and his wife Jenny of New Iberia; two daughters, Becky Ann Toups of New Iberia, and Peggy Marie Pope and her husband Ron of New Iberia; one brother, Luke Bonin of New Iberia; two sisters, Gernice Bonin and Una Bonin; 8 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Deluxe and Elina D. Bonin; five brothers, Alcee, Clifton, Harry, Ernest, and Claude Bonin; and two sisters, Gessie Grivat, and Irene Broussard. Pallbearers include David Landry, Shane Toups, Tyler Toups, James Jimmy Bonin, Ron Pope, Curt Landry, and Karen Landry. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joyce Adams, Evelyn Broussard, Dot Prince, Mae Knupper, Dot Toups, and Rita's grandchildren and great grandchildren. A gathering of family and friends will be on Monday March 8, 2010 from 11:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will then continue on Tuesday March 9, 2010 from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM. The family would like to give a special thanks to Nancy Broussard for bringing Rita communion every Sunday and a very special thanks to all of her caregivers for the compassionate care they gave to her.
