Rita Mae Olander Simon

New Iberia - Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia for Rita Mae Olander Simon, 77, who passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016, in Webster, Texas. Interment will follow in the St. Helen Cemetery, near Louisa. Rev. Ed Degeyter will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM. Mrs. Simon was born on November 12, 1938 on Weeks Island, and has been a resident of the Houston/Pasadena area since 1968. She was a very simple lady, who enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, going to the beach, and feeding the ducks and birds. Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia Smith of Pearland, Texas; son, James Dale Simon of Pasadena, Texas; brother, Edward Olander and wife Mary of Cypremort Point; sister, Dorothy Romero of Abbeville; granddaughter, Heather Day and husband Steven of Gainesville, Florida; and a great grandson, Joshua Day. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Frances Rolkosky Olander; silbings, Sylvester Olander, Elenora Hartmon, Steve Olander, Leo Olander, Andrew Olander, Helen Roy, Elizabeth Rawlins, and Alberta Borel.
