St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, May 7, 2009, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Rita Melancon Toucheck, 87, who passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at her residence.
Entombment will follow at St. Michael Mausoleum in St. Martinville.
Msgr. J. Douglas Courville will officiate at the funeral Mass.
Affectionately known as "Taunte Tutu" to her family and friends, she enjoyed playing Bingo, going to the casinos, and dancing to French music. Her most treasured times were those spent with her family and friends.
Survivors include four sons, Louis Toucheck and his wife, Gloria, Oreste Toucheck, Jr. and his wife, Dianna, all of St. Martinville, Rodney Toucheck and his wife, Susan, of Breaux Bridge, and Leon Toucheck and his wife, Frances, of St. Martinville; one daughter, Darlene Bourque and her husband, Malcolm, of Loreauville; two brothers, Joseph Melancon, of Lafayette, and Antoine Melancon, of St. Martinville; one sister, Alice Frederick, of Breaux Bridge; 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oreste Toucheck, Sr.; a son, Larry Toucheck; her parents, Rene and Eucharist Champagne Melancon; three sisters, Leta Melancon, Theresa LeBlanc, and Josephine Latiolais; five brothers, Elie, Lawrence, Albert, Amar, and Maurice Melancon.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.
A rosary will be recited at 11 a.m. on Thursday.
Pallbearers will be O.T. Toucheck, Delven Bourque, Jr., Malcolm Bourque, Brent Bourque, Bart Bourque, Melvin Latiolais, Lennie Toucheck, and Delven Bourque, III.
A special thank you, with love, is given from the entire family to Tabitha, her granddaughter, for all the love, care and kindheartedness, given to her during her illness.
