Ritchie Daryl Hall, 60 years old, transitioned from this world to the next on Monday, January 15, 2018. He died peacefully at 3:03 at his residence in Catahoula, Louisiana after a nearly year-long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family and accompanied on his journey by a flock of cardinals he had been watching outside his home on Bayou Mercier.
Ritchie was born on May 25, 1957 in Brookhaven, Mississippi to Nita Mae Martin Hall of McCall Creek, Mississippi and the late Virgil D. Hall of Brookhaven, Mississippi. He grew up in Baker, Louisiana where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Annette Haynes on May 24, 1975. He earned an Associates degree in Electronics Technology at REI in Little Rock, Arkansas. He worked for 31 years at Diebold/Nixdorf. He loved the outdoors, including duck hunting, fishing, hiking, and canoeing. He lived between a bayou and a pond where he was always close to the water. By hunting ducks, he claimed he was saving the world from bird flu. He was infamous for his many renditions of Guitarzan at family functions. His grandchildren knew him as Pappy, and he was an important figure in their lives. He taught them to hunt and fish and teased them and told them amusing stories.
Ritchie is survived by his wife of 42 years, Phyllis Annette Haynes Hall, his son Joshua Martin Hall (Dana Graham), his granddaughter Zoe Vega Hall, his grandson Drake Harrison Hall, his mother Nita Mae Martin Hall, his sister Sarah Cedelas Hall (Larry Loots), his brother Kelvin Darius Hall (Beki Lawrence), his sister Lanita Kay (Jeffrey) Buchanan, his sister Risha Janene (Max) Brumfield, and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great- and great-great nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of his life on Saturday, January 27, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:30 at St. Johns Restaurant, 203 N. New Market St, St. Martinville, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hope Cancer Retreat in Splendora, Texas, Hospice Promise Foundation, American Cancer Society, or M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
Pellerin Funeral Home (337-332-2111) is in charge of arrangements.
