New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 2, 2017, at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church in New Iberia for Robert "Bobby" Bonin Sr., 80, who passed away on Friday, September 29, 2017, in New Iberia. Entombment will follow in Beau Pre Cemetery in Jeanerette, with Military Honors by the Iberia Honor Guard. Rev. Ed Degeyter will be the Celebrant. A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary, led by the Men's Rosary Group, will be prayed at 6:00 pm Sunday. Visitation will continue on Monday from 8:00 am until 1:15 pm. A resident of Jeanerette, Mr. Bonin was born on March 12, 1937 to the late Norbert and Bella Dooley Bonin, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was the owner of Diamond B Marine Services, Inc., in New Iberia, and was part owner of Ronco. "Bobby" had previously worked for Diamond M in Morgan City, and he enjoyed shrimping, taking care of his animals, camping, fishing, and riding his grandsons on his "buggy". The most important thing in life was his family. Survivors include his wife, Bernice Eskind Bonin of Jeanerette; daughters, Stephanie LeJeune and husband Joseph of Jeanerette, Kay Roberts of Charenton, Lisa Hoffpauir and husband Tiger of Cade, Robin Bodin and husband Todd of New Iberia, Lacey Musso and companion Sean Arceneaux of Jeanerette; sons, Stephen Bonin and wife Lynette of Florida, Bobby Bonin, Jr. and wife Robin of New Iberia; brother, Norbert J. Bonin and wife Mimi of Jeanerette; sister, Peggy Fitch of New Iberia; 13 grandchildren, Rochelle, Laura, Alison, Lyndi, Victoria, Hunter, Gabrielle, Ashlyn, Bobby J, III, Michael, Cody, Braxton, Houston, Harrison; and 4 great grandchildren, Jaxon, Daniel, Christian, and Parker. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Vanessa Marie Bonin; father, Norbert Bonin; mother, Bella Dooley Bonin Thibodeaux; step father, Lawrence Thibodeaux; sister, Judy LeBlanc; an infant brother; and a brother-in-law, Mike Fitch. Pallbearers will be Todd Bodin, Joey Ham, Derrick LeGard, Sean Arceneaux, Cameron Gonsoulin, Tucker Viator, Michael Browning, and Travis Bonin. Honorary pallbearers include Bobby Bonin Jr., Bobby Bonin III, R.J. Bonin, Jarrod Bonin, Ryan Fitch, Panookie Keith LaCroix, Steve Bonin, Joseph LeJeune, Cody Browning, and Ronald Foco.
