Robert R. "Buddy" Moss, Jr. was born in New Iberia, Louisiana on January 9, 1941, to the late Rand Robert and Lillie Belgard Moss. Known for his generous and helpful nature, Buddy had a heart that was larger than life itself. Whenever someone needed assistance, he would drop everything and be the first one there to lend a helping hand.
Buddy was a 1959 graduate of Catholic High School in New Iberia, where he lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. He was a longtime faithful member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. He dedicated his time and energy to the church as the Parish Council President and served as a lector during Holy Mass. His devotion to his faith was unwavering, attending daily Mass until he could no longer drive and watching it on TV thereafter. Buddy truly embodied the values of his Catholic faith and instilled them in his family, teaching them to rely on the Lord in all things.
Not only was Buddy committed to his church, but he also served his country with pride. As an Airman 2nd Class in the United States Air Force, he bravely served two tours of duty - first in Vietnam and then in Australia. In Australia, he was a part of a team that was electronically surveying the world. Upon returning home, Buddy worked for Boeing where he contributed to the construction of the iconic Saturn 5. He later retired from Lemoine Company as their equipment manager.
Buddy's love for his family was immeasurable, and he always prioritized being there for them. He took great joy in supporting his grandchildren by attending their sporting events and being present during their Grandparents Day activities. Fishing and working with his hands brought him immense pleasure as well - he possessed a remarkable gift for fixing anything that came across his path.
Mr. Moss is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Sandra Stansbury Moss; daughter, Marcelle Kokenge (Jason); son, Jason Moss; siblings, Ann Guillotte (Randy), Jim Moss (Peggy), and Barbara Young; grandchildren, Rachel Romero (Hunter), Brandon Moss (Kathryn), Lance Moss (Tori), Katherine LeBlanc (Ridge), Caroline Wilson, and Joseph Kokenge (Gillian); great-grandchildren, Sophia, Aria, Kathleen, Duke, Drake, Camryn, Cullen, Stella, Emerson, John, and Margot (who is due in May).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Moss; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Young.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Kokenge, Brandon Moss, Lance Moss, Hunter Romero, Ridge LeBlanc, and Randy Guillotte.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Calcutta House and Hospice of Acadiana; and to his wonderful team of doctors: Dr. Benjamin Proctor, Dr. Puri, Dr. Roth, Dr. Jason Bourque, Dr. Welch, and Dr. Leleux, for extraordinary care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made Hospice of Acadiana.
Buddy touched the lives of many with his kindness and compassion. His legacy will live on through the memories he shared with those around him. May he rest in peace.
