Lydia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM, on Wednesday, September 16, 2015, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Lydia, for Robert James Robinson Edwards, Sr., 77, who passed away on Monday, September 14, 2015, in New Iberia. Burial will follow in St. Nicholas Cemetery in Patoutville. Rev. Michael Champagne will be the Celebrant. A gathering of family and friends will be at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Lydia on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM. A rosary will be prayed at 12:30 PM. A native of Norfolk, Virginia and a longtime resident of New Iberia, Mr. Edwards was born on February 19, 1938 to Gerald Robinson Edwards and Lorena Smith Edwards. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served our country during the Vietnam War, and worked in the oilfield for many years. A former member of the VFW, Mr. Edwards enjoyed reading Popular Science magazines, his retirement years, and most of all being with his family. Survivors include his children, Linda Jumonville and husband Adam of New Iberia, Robert Edwards, Jr. of New Iberia; brother, Andrew Edwards and wife Judy of Houston, Texas; brother-in-law, Robert Tiejie of Elton; and grandchildren, John Jumonville, Grant Jumonville, Catherine Jumonville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Edwards; sister, Geraline Tiejie; and a brother, Luke Edwards.
