St. Martinville - A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 pm, on Thursday, September 1, 2016, at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville, for Robert L. Hurst Sr., 67, who passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2016, in Lafayette.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 7:00 am until time of service on Thursday.
A rosary will be prayed at 11:30 am on Thursday.
Chaplain Francis of The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice will officiate at the Funeral Service.
Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Robert was a veteran who honorably served his country in United States Navy. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding a motorcycle, horseback riding, going to the casino, and watching football. His favorite TV channel was the Discovery Channel and he loved watching the animal shows; if you wanted the remote control, good luck getting it from him. Robert was known to have many talents, such as: painting, making belt buckles, constructing barbecue pits, and customizing his trucks.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Joan E. Francis Hurst; sons, Robert Hurst, Jr. and wife Joline of Jeanerette, Jeremiah Hurst of TN, Zachariah Hurst of Lafayette, and Christopher, Damien, and Travis Batiste, all of New Iberia; daughters, Robin Batiste of Broussard, Starr D. Hurst of Breaux Bridge, Ysushia D. Batiste and husband Dynell of St. Martinville, and Chantel D. Lindon and husband Kavin of St. Martinville; brothers, Ephirum Sereal, Jr. and wife Martha of Little Rock, AK, Dan Sereal and wife Lucille of Houston, TX, Richard Hurst of Jeanerette, Elwin Hurst of Jeanerette, Lester Gibson and wife Phoebe of Pensacola, FL, and Ricky John-Louis of Lafayette; sisters, Gail John-Lewis and husband Walter of New Iberia, Regina Wilson of Lafayette, Jo Ann Hurst-Merritte of Lafayette, Christina John-Louis of Jeanerette, Carrie John-Louis of Jeanerette, and Patricia Westley of Jeanerette; a godchild, Sparkle Williams; and 19 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by father, Robert John Louis, mother; Willie Mae Merritte; brothers, Alfred John-Louis and Timothy Merritte; and his sister, Norma Ledet.
Pallbearers will be Kavin Lindon, Dynell Batiste, Felton Colar, William Colar, Arthur Gedward Jr., and Andrew Moore.
Honorary pallbearers will be Robert L. Savoy, Walter John-Lewis, Ryan Wilson, Mitchell Francis, Jr., Johnny Francis, Clay Francis, Frank Francis, Joseph Durand, William Francis, Don Williams, and Scott Sam.
