New Iberia ?? A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Iberia for Rodney 'Pop' Melancon, 83 who died Thursday, October 20, 2011 in New Iberia . Entombment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery . Rev. Mark Derise will be the Celebrant. Born on July 13, 1928 , 'Pop' was the owner of Melancon??s Welding and Repair Shop. An avid gardener, he proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Emma Romero Melancon of New Iberia; son, Keith Melancon and wife, Ann Musso Melancon of New Iberia; daughters, Kathy Melancon of New Iberia, Laurie Melancon Cobb of New Iberia; brothers, Elmo Melancon, Joseph Melancon, and Clovis Melancon all of Winnie, Texas; three grandchildren, Emily Cobb, McKenna Cobb, and Mollie Melancon all of New Iberia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Romlies and Lena Credeur Melancon; and several brothers and sisters. Pallbearers will be Richard Delhomme, Donvan Bonin, Ricky Broussard, Mike LaBiche, Marcus LeCamus, and Justin Gaudin. A gathering of family and friends will be Friday from 3:30 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd , in New Iberia . A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Friday.
