St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 20, 2018, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville for Roger Paul Hamilton, Sr., 71, who passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 10:00 pm on Thursday and continue on Friday at 7:00 am until 12:30 pm.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm on Thursday.
Rev. Michael Sucharski, SVD will officiate at the Mass of Christian Burial. Scriptures will be read by Delores Hamilton and Renee Savoy. Gift bearers will be Regan Hamilton and Kyndal Hamilton.
Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Roger Paul Hamilton Sr. was a loving husband to his wife of 44 years and a caring father to his children and grandchildren. He loved his family and extended family. He was an educator who believed in academic success but with stern discipline. He was active in his community. He enjoyed lively discussions, his Fraternity Omega Psi Phi, long but slow drives, getting family and friends together, and visiting with people while drinking his coffee.
He is survived by his loving spouse Carmen Savoy Hamilton; his son, Roger P. Hamilton, Jr.; his daughters, Courtney Michele Hamilton, Tonya Patrice Hamilton, Ashley Nicole Lee and husband Richard Lee, IV, and Brandi Lynn Jacob and husband Jesse; his grandchildren, Emani Shayne Hamilton, Sydni Michele Hamilton, Ethan Sean Hamilton, Kyndal Savoy Hamilton, Regan Paige Hamilton, Ryann McKenzie Lee, Evan Seth Hamilton, Richard Noel Lee, V, Jessi McKinle Jacob, Jules "Jude" Christian Jacob, and Raylee Olivia Lee; his brothers, Lennet Hamilton, Sr. and wife Peggy, Nolan Hamilton, Sr., and Nolton Hamilton, Sr.; and one sister, Melia Hamilton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Mildred Hamilton; his brothers, Daniel Hamilton and Emery Hamilton; his foster brother, Antoine Clifton Joseph; his niece, Roxie Bourda; his in-laws, Walter and Carmen Savoy; and his brothers-in-law, Walter Savoy, Jr. and David Savoy.
Pallbearers will be Judge Edward Rubin, Clifton Syrie, Zebulon Simon, Eldrige Simon, Everett Manuel, and James Russell.
