Cecilia A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, on Friday, October 18, 2013, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cecilia, for Rogers Batiste, 88, who passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2013. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 8:00 am until 10:30 am on Friday. A rosary will be recited at 9:00 am on Friday. Rev. Michael Delcambre will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be Dr. Rolanda Johnson Wilkerson and Kaitlyn Calais. Gift Bearers will be Francisco Helaire, III and Ainsley Calais. Interment will follow at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Cecilia. Mr. Batiste worked as a carpenter in the construction industry for many years, specializing in cabinetry work woodworking was his passion and he was known throughout the community for the fine work that he did. He was a very sociable person who loved meeting people and as a pastime he enjoyed watching television. He is survived by his son, Wilbert Batiste Sr. of Cecilia; three daughters, Georgia Williams and companion, Presley Joseph, and Shirley Helaire, all of Cecilia, and Rebecca Johnson and husband, Ronald Johnson, Sr., of Baker; two daughters-in-law, Annie Ruth Batiste and Barbara Batiste; his sister, Georgia Lewis of Cecilia; 19 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Aspazie Davis Batiste; his parents, Homer and Alozia Sam Batiste; his brothers, Ernest and Robert Batiste; his sister, Audrey Batiste; two sons, Robert Batiste and Alton Batiste, Sr.; his grandson, Alton Batiste, Jr., his son-in-law, Francisco Helaire; and his great grandchild, Quinton Williams. Pallbearers will be Francisco Helaire, Jr., Alton Helaire, Jared Helaire, Joey Williams, Richard Williams, and Rayland Johnson.
