Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 31, 2019, at St. Louis Chapel in Parks for Rogers Sam , 77, who passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2019, at The Carpenter House St. Joseph Hospice.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 7:00 am until 9:30 am on Saturday.
A rosary will be prayed at 8:30 am on Saturday.
Rev. Nicholas DuPre' will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be Kali Sonnier and Melissa Joseph. Gift Bearers will be Chanelle Gardner and Jared Sam.
Interment will take place at a later date.
Rogers Sam brought joy and laughter to everyone he came in contact with. During his free time, he enjoyed being outdoors riding in trail rides, cooking and giving orders, and having a good time with family and friends. He was a retired member of the True Friend Society at La Pointe.
He will be missed dearly, but his life will be forever celebrated each time those who pass his legacy on to one another.
He is survived by his special friend and companion, Viola Joseph of Parks; sons, Joseph Lionel "Butch" Sam and wife Emily of Baton Rouge, Kevin James Sam and companion Kim of Duson; daughter, Stacy Annette Sam and companion Patrick of Houston, TX; step sons, Kenneth Joseph, Jr. and companion Trina of Henderson, Curtis Joseph Sr. and spouse Melissa of Parks; brothers, Joseph G. Doucet of Opelousas, Derby Doucet of Opelousas, Herbert Doucet of Houston, TX; sisters, Leola Journet of Arnaudville, Ceola Leonard of Fordoche, and Geraldine Doucet of Baton Rouge; fourteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph W. Doucet; mother, Louise Reed Sam; sister, Pricilla Brown.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Joseph Jr., Miles Joseph Jr., MaCary Benjamin, Kenneth Arvie, Al Perry Arvie, Stephen Sam, Rodney Smith, and Gerald Thompson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joseph Lionel "Butch" Sam, Kevin James Sam, Kenneth Joseph Sr., Curtis Joseph Sr., Shawn Sam, June Calais, Thomas Williams, and J.J. Frederick.
