The family requests visiting hours be observed at the funeral home in Cecilia on Saturday from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm.
Joey was the only child born to Grace Marie LeBlanc, who he loved dearly, on June 8, 1951 in Tampa, Florida. He was raised and lived in Cecilia, LA his whole life. He graduated from Cecilia High School in 1969.
It is with great sadness to announce the loss of Joey. He lived life to the fullest and never missed a beat. He will be missed by all who knew him. To know Joey was to love him. He touched the lives of many with his kind, loving and generous soul. Joey was one to give you the shirt off his back He was always doing for or helping someone else, always putting his own needs last.
Joey met the love of his life & his forever partner, Sue Alice, in 1984 and married her on January 23, 1987. Not long after, they started their family and welcomed two daughters adding to his role as a step-father to Sue's son. Joey's greatest pride and joy was and has always been raising his family and spending all of his time with them. After high school, he dedicated 30 plus years of his life to SPL, where he enjoyed working and worked hard to give his family the life they deserved; his family having always been his first priority.
His next pride and joy, of course, was LSU. Joey was a huge, die-hard fan. He spent every Friday morning starting at 6 AM for the last several years at his "coffee" meetings at CC's Coffee House discussing LSU. He knew everything about them, from football to baseball, and even basketball. And, even long before the weekly coffee meetings began, he made it a priority to attend the watching of every LSU football game with the Morley Gang - something he enjoyed doing and always looked forward to. Also, in his spare time, when not watching LSU he loved to go hunting and camping with his buddies.
Joey is survived by his loving wife and care giver, Sue Alice Melancon LeBlanc, who took care of him tirelessly until his last breath; his two daughters, Rachel L. Tarver (Nathan) and Heather M. LeBlanc (Craig); his step-son, Robert D. "Bobby" Boutte; his one and only granddaughter, Taygan P. Tarver, who he thought the world of; his grandsons, Craig J. "CJ" and Cress J. Dartez, Keagan I. Tarver, Phillip M. (Shelby), Tylor D. (Kaitlyn), Ian A. and Beau N. Boutte, and one to be born soon, on or around May 21, Croix J. Dartez; his godchild, Stacey; his lifelong friend, LJ LeBlanc; and a host of cousins, in-laws, as well as nieces and nephews.
Joey is preceded in death by his grandparents, Carlos and Cecile LeBlanc; mother, Grace Marie LeBlanc; in-laws, Lawrence "Pee-Wee" and Anna Lou Melancon; his aunt, Jeanette Scoggin; his brothers-in-law, Darrell and Michael Melancon; his sister-in-law, Barbara Melancon; his nephew, Chad Melancon; cousin, who he thought of as a brother, Jim Scoggin; and his three angel grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a huge thank you to the nurses with NSI and Hospice of NSI, out of Breaux Bridge, for the care they provided to Joey until his passing.
