St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, January 2, 2010, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Roland Joseph Johnson, 63, who passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2009 at Regional Medical Center of Acadiana in Lafayette.
Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Father Augustinus Seran, SVD, will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Kim Lynette Johnson and Anjriette Robertson. Gift Bearers will be Brenda Roy, Cheryl Flugence, Lynda Johnson, and O'Neal Robertson.
Roland attended school at the ARC of St. Martinville for 15 years, where he earned Certificates of Award for being the "Most Friendly" and "Client of the Month". While attending the ARC, he also particpated in various activities in the Special Olympics, earning eight, 1st Place, three, 2nd Place, and five, 3rd Place Awards. ;
Roland had many passions in his life - he loved listening to music, dancing, and watching cartoons. He also enjoyed trucks, fire engines and creating pulley systems for cranes. Roland loved traveling and has traveled from the East to West coasts on several occasions. A very organized person, Roland took great care and pride in keeping things and people in order. He was very friendly and never met a stranger, he was indeed a true gentleman in every aspect of the word and would very respectfully open doors for everyone.
Survivors include his brother, Joseph Johnson, of St. Martinville; three sisters, Lynda Johnson, of San Diego, CA, Brenda Etienne Roy, of San Diego, CA, and Marcell Johnson, of St. Martinville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Luberta Savoy Johnson and a brother, David Johnson.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 7:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
A rosary will be recited at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
Pallbearers will be O'Neal Robertson, Bryan Jones, Troy Johnson, Nolan Johnson, Bryan Flugence, and Juma Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Melvin Johnson, Brennan Roy, James Stevenson, Ronald Brailey, Logan LaGrange, and Alfred Scales, Jr.
Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville is in charge of arrangements.
