St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 31, 2007, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church, in St. Martinville for Roland Robert Robichaux, 89, who died on Monday, May 28, 2007 at his residence.
Entombment will follow at St. Michael Mausoleum in St. Martinville.
Mr. Robichaux was a native of New Iberia and a resident of St. Martinville. He was a graduate of St. Peter's College, New Iberia and retired as a sugar cane and dairy farmer. He was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus for over 56 years, served as an usher for St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church and a Faithful Adorer at Perpetual Chapel. He was President of Bayou Teche Waterworks for 10 years, a board member of Dairymen Inc., Cattleman Association and served on the County Committee for Farmers Administration.
Mr. Robichaux is survived by his wife, Ida Judice Robichaux of St. Martinville; ten children, 33 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Children include four sons, Carlyle Robichaux, of Abbeville, Roland J. Robichaux, RPh and his wife, Nancy, of St. Martinville, Dr. Chris Robichaux and his wife, Terry, of Breaux Bridge, and Dr. Lonnie Robichaux and his wife, Glynis, of New Iberia; six daughters, Brenda Oubre of New Iberia, Rose Waguespack of Pearland, TX, Pauline Duplantis and her husband, Richard, of St. Martinville, Kathy Whatley and her husband, Jerry, of Iowa, Joan Duplantis, RN, of Coteau and Lisa Lormand and her husband, Jody, of Lafayette. He is also survivied by two sisters, Elaine Riggs, of New Iberia and Linda Vincent, of Loreauville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Louis and Pauline Deslatte Robichaux, of New Iberia; an infant son, Wayne; a grandson, Joseph; two brothers, Claude Robichaux, of Beaumont, TX, Kearney Robichaux, of New Iberia; three sisters, Gerdie Judice, of Loreauville, Amy Riggs, of New Iberia, and Nina Christen, of Bryan, TX.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 and continue at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday until time of service.
A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2007.
Pallbearers will include his sons, Carlyle Robichaux, Roland J. Robichaux, RPh, Dr. Chris Robichaux, Dr. Lonnie Robichaux, and his grandsons, Wayne Oubre, Dr. Jordan Whatley, and Brady Robichaux.
Honorary pallbearers will include his grandsons, Benjamin Oubre, Christopher Oubre, James Waguespack, Michael Duplantis, Joey Robichaux, Josh Whatley, Jake Whatley, Aaron Duplantis, Jeffrey Duplantis, Andrew Robichaux, Michael Robichaux, Taylor Robichaux, Sammie Robichaux, Blair Lormand, and Jansen Lormand.
Donations may be made to St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church.
