Coteau - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, February 5, 2021, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Coteau for Roland J. Romero, 82, who passed away with his family by his side on Monday, February 1, 2021, at Heart Hospital of Lafayette.
Rev. Ed Degeyter will be the Celebrant. Rev. Brian Harrington will Con-Celebrate.
Entombment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm on Friday.
A rosary, led by the Men's Rosary Group, will be prayed at 12:00 pm on Friday.
A native and resident of Coteau, Roland J. Romero was born on May 16, 1938 to the late Edias and Lelia Hulin Romero. He went to work at a young age at Gragnon Wholesale and Renoudet & Dietlein Wholesale, and retired from the U.S. Postal Service as Assistant Postmaster. He proudly served our country in the Army National Guard for 21 years. He coached Little League Baseball, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Roland was a member of the Knights of Columbus #3425 in New Iberia and #5111 in Coteau. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed.
Mr. Romero is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Ruby Thibodeaux Romero; two sons, Gordon D. Romero and Eric P. Romero (fiance' Jennifer Wilcox); two daughters, Leslie R. Douet (husband Allen Douet, Jr.), and Robin R. Lipari (husband Thomas A. Lipari); brother, Harvey Romero (wife Gloria K. Romero); eight grandchildren, Beau Buteaux, Lindsay R. Dugas (husband Troy Dugas), Jason Romero, Natalie Romero, Allison Romero, Amber D. LaBiche (husband Cameron LaBiche), Cade Lipari, and Macy Lipari; and five great- grandchildren, Railey, Gabe, Beauen and Kellen Buteaux, and Theodore Dugas.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Barry P. Romero, and a brother and sister-in-law, Herman and Evelyn Romero.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Lipari, Allen Douet, Cade Lipari, Beau Buteaux, Glenn Romero, Keith Romero, Shane Broussard and Steven Romero.
