Ronald Charles

St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, on Friday, June 28, 2013, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Ronald Joseph Charles, Sr., 70, who passed away on Friday, June 21, 2013. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 7:00 am until 10:30 am on Friday. A rosary will be recited at 9:00 am on Friday. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery in Saint Martinville. A devout Catholic, Mr. Charles was a parishioner of Notre Dame Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, an Usher, a past advisor of the Notre Dame Youth Group, and served on the Church Fair Committee. He was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver, an associate member of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and president of the Concerned Citizens Club. As well as being actively involved in his church parish, he was also involved in his community, having served on the St. Martinville City Council for several years. He was a teacher for over 40 years and dearly loved his profession. He enjoyed working in his yard and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Rose Mary N. Charles of St. Martinville; two sons, Ronald J. (Ena) Charles, Jr. of St. Martinville, and Brian Charles of Houston, TX; three daughters, Jennifer Collins of Houston, TX, Danielle Charles of Sugar Land, TX, and Tiffany Charles of Houston, TX; his sister, Shirley Ann (James) Wiltz of St. Martinville; his half-sister, Phyllis Jones of St. Martinville; his grandchildren, LaRonda Charles, Ronald Charles, III, DeVant Charles, Adrien Charles, Breanne Charles, Lorenzo Williams, Jr., Madison Collins, Ciera Collins, Martin Collins, Jr., Marques Collins, Antwon Collins, and Jonathan Collins; and three great grandchildren, Christian Collins, Marsiah Collins and Anaiyah Collins; his in-laws, Paul H. (Jackie) Narcisse, Hilda Price Charles, Gail Faulk Charles, and Arthur Champ, Jr., all of St. Martinville, Hammond Polk, Jr. of New Iberia, LA and Wilfred J. (Beverly) Narcisse of Opelousas, LA; an aunt, Mable McCarper of Galveston, TX; an uncle, John (Jeanette) Jean Baptiste of Houston, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Steven Charles and Clothilde Jean Baptiste; two brothers, Nolan Charles, Sr. and Larry Charles, Sr.; four sisters, Mary Etienne, Loretta Polk, Anna Belle Alexander, and Anna Mae Champ; his son-in-law, Martin Collins, Sr.; a brother-in-law, John Henry Alexander; and his in-laws, Wilfred and Willie Mae Narcisse . Pallbearers will be Steven Champ, Larry Charles, Jr., Dumas Charles, Arthur Champ, III, Hammond Polk, III, and Keevy Narcisse. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Charles, Jr., Brian Charles, Paul Narcisse, Wilfred J. Narcisse, Alton Etienne, Melton Etienne, Kerry Charles, Arthur Champ, Jr., Hammond Polk, Jr., Nolan Charles, Jr., and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
