New Iberia - Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, October 17, 2016, at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia for Ronald Eugene Mellon, 78, who passed away on Friday, October 14, 2016, in New Iberia. Deacon Theo Landry will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will be Monday from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home. A rosary will be prayed at 10:00 AM Monday. Interment will be at a later date. A longtime resident of New Iberia, Mr. Mellon was born on October 11, 1938 in High Point, North Carolina to Kenneth and Susie Dixon Mellon. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force, and worked as a welder in the oilfield. A former pilot, Mr. Mellon loved flying planes and also drag car racing. He also enjoyed fishing, building airplane models, but most of all spending time with his grandchildren and taking care of his dogs. Survivors include his daughters, Marty Mellon and spouse Jason McLean of New Iberia, Misty Montgomery and husband Shawn of New Iberia; sons, Michael Mellon of Lafayette, Patrick Mellon of Colorado Springs, Colorado; brother, Donnie Mellon and wife Susie of Mountain View, Arkansas; grandchildren, Tripp Montgomery, Emeri McLean, Ali Montgomery, and Easton McLean. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Barrilleaux Mellon; and a nephew, Joshua Mellon.
