St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 2009, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville for Ronald Joseph Oubre, 71, who passed away Saturday, March 7, 2009.
Burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Ronny was born August 28, 1937, in St. Martinville. Following in the footsteps of his older brothers, Ronny graduated from Southwestern Louisiana Institute with a degree in Chemical Engineering and enjoyed a successful career in the aircraft industry, for the most part in southern California, where he lived until his retirement. Though a brilliant engineer, Ronnys major passion throughout his life was music, and his private collection was impressive. He was also the consummate movie expert and hosted his own Academy Award ceremonies each year for friends and neighbors. After retirement, Ronny moved to Bangkok, Thailand, to spend his remaining years, though illness eventually brought him home to his beloved Cajun Country, of which he always remained very proud. Above all, Ronny had a wonderful sense of humor which will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include three brothers, Carroll Oubre and wife Margaret of Houston, TX; Maurice Oubre and wife Lillian of Baton Rouge, LA; and Glenn Oubre and wife Elaine of Broussard, LA; one sister, Myra Bienvenu and husband Thomas of Stilwell, KS; sister-in-law Mrs. Robert (Jane) Oubre of Lake Jackson, TX and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Esther Oubre; and two brothers, Marvin Oubre and Robert Oubre.
