Rose Melancon

Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m., on Saturday, October 30, 2010, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Rose Mae Evangeline Hebert Melancon, 84, who passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at St. Martin Hospital in Breaux Bridge. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 1 in Breaux Bridge. Msgr. J. Douglas Courville will be the celebrant of the Funeral Mass with Fr. Paul LaFleur serving as con-celebrant. Scriptures will be read by Sue Ketelers and Laura Street . Gifts will be presented to the Altar by her grandchildren. Mrs. Melancon was a parishioner of St. Bernard Catholic Church where she was an adorer in the Chapel of Perpetual Adoration. She was a member of the St. Martin Parish Home Demonstration Club and a past member of the Widows of the Teche. She was a caring, loving, and nurturing mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends on any given occasion. Rose Mae was a very organized as well as being a creative seamstress who took great pride in her creations. She was very proud of her French heritage and the unique culture which surrounded her and enjoyed sharing her knowledge with anyone who would inquire. Survivors include three sons, Rodney Melancon and his wife, Terry, of Opelousas, and Patrick and Gary Melancon of Breaux Bridge; four daughters, Sylvia Porter and her husband, Isaiah Porter, Jr., of West Fork, AR; Laura Street and her husband, Dan, of Fayetteville, AR, Cheryl Melancon of Baton Rouge, Sue Ketelers and her husband, Stewart, of Breaux Bridge; three brothers, Clifford and Ray Hebert of Port Barre, and Nolan Hebert of Opelousas; one sister, Georgie LaHaye of Port Barre; 16 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren 12 great grandchildren, 9 step great grandchildren; and 1 step great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvain Melancon; a daughter, Karen Melancon; her parents, Robert and Eliza LeBlanc Hebert; and her sister, Rita Richard. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday and continue on Saturday at 7 a .m. until 12:30 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Friday.
