Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, June 29, 2009, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Rosemond John Laneaux, 74, who died on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
Father Allen Breaux will officiate at the Funeral Mass. The reader will be Ann Escoyne and his granddaughters will serve as gift bearers.
Mr. John was known for the smooth tone in his voice that displayed the kind man that he was to all that knew and loved him. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, raising rabbits and quails, and spending time with his family and friends. In 1966 he was awarded the baseball batting champion award with the company that he was employed with for many years, which was Gordy Salt, now Cargill Salt. Mr. John will be sadly missed by his children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, and his companion, Genevieve Chauffe. He was a member of the United States Army National Guard.
Survivors include his companion, Genevieve Chauffe, of Breaux Bridge; three daughters, Elizabeth L. Tauzin and husband, Richard, of Poche Bridge, Rita Gail Laneaux, of Poche Bridge, and Jennifer L. Champagne and husband, Larry, of Butte LaRose; one son, Lambert Laneaux and wife, Laurie, of Cecilia; one brother, Patrick Lanaux and wife, Laura, of Breaux Bridge; two sisters, Ann Escoyne and husband, Bennett, of Breaux Bridge, and Rose Savoie and husband, Bob, of Grand Anse; 12 grandchildren, Richard Tauzin, Candace Tauzin, Tanya Littwiller, Crystal Dupuis, Joseph Daigle, Lester Daigle, Hugh Champagne, Kevin Champagne, Alaina Laneaux, Courtney Robin, Corey Laneaux, and Sonny Laneaux; and 17 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alida Ann Landry Laneaux; two sons, Lester John Laneaux and Eddie James Laneaux; his parents, Pierre and Antoinette Cormier Laneaux; and two brothers, Sidney and Floyd Laneaux.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10 a.m. on Sunday and continue until 10:30 a.m. on Monday.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Pallbearers will be Hugh Champagne, Kevin Champagne, Richard Tauzin, Joseph Daigle, Corey Laneaux, and Lambert Laneaux.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lester Daigle and Sonny Laneaux.
Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge is in charge of arrangements.
