New Iberia - Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, November 21, 2019, at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia for Roy Joseph Dugas, 92, who passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, in New Iberia.
Rev. Ed Degeyter will officiate.
Interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery in New Iberia.
A gathering of family and friends will be at the funeral home from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm on Thursday.
A rosary will be prayed at 10:00 am on Thursday.
A lifelong area resident, Roy Joseph Dugas was born in Loreauville, LA on January 9, 1927 to the late Anatole and Lucet Broussard Dugas. He was a retired sugarcane farmer and boat builder, having worked for Neuville Boat Buillders in Loreauville for many years. Mr. Dugas was a longtime member of Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church, and he loved duck hunting, fishing, and making a garden every year. He will be deeply missed.
Mr. Dugas is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Vernice Sonnier Dugas; children, Peggy Legnon and spouse Russel of Jeanerette, and Joe Picard and fiancee, Samantha LeBlanc of New Iberia; brother, Lloyd Dugas and wife Gertrude of St. Martinville; five grandchildren, Pam (David) Arton, Tosha Legnon, Shane (Rochelle) Picard, Jason Picard, and Tiffany (Jacob) Meche; 10 great-grandchildren, Megan (Chase), Tretin (Lanie), Devin (Peyton), Brooklyn (Troy), Madelen, Justin, Jada, Jalyn, Bentley and Dakota; a great-great-grandson (Clay) on the way; nieces, Gail (Basil) and Janet (Lee); great niece, Melissa; great nephews, Tony T. and B.J.; sisters-in-law, Esther Picard and Dianna Sonnier; brother-in-law, Harold Picard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Angela Fussell; a great-granddaughter, Lauralyn Picard; and his in-laws, Lucien and Elmer Sonnier.
Pallbearers are Devin, Jason, Giang, Marcus, David and Chase.
