Ruby Abshire

New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Friday, June 30 , 2006, at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church for Ruby Abshire, 86, who died Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at Dauterive Hospital in New Iberia. Entombment will follow in the Nativity of Our Lady mausoleum. Fr. Michael Arnaud, pastor of Nativity of Our Lady will be the Celebrant. Ms. Abshire's passion in life was taking care of others which she did as a certified nurses assistant at Gueydan Memorial Hospital, American Legion Hospital, in Crowley, Iberia Medical Center, Dauterive Hospital, and Consolata Nursing Home. Survivors include her son, Melvin "Pete" Petry, Jr. and his wife Gloria of New Iberia; grandchildren, Brett Petry and wife Cindy of Covington, Scott Petry and wife Kelly of Houston, Michelle Davidson and husband Glen of New Iberia; great grandchildren, Kristin and Kevin Petry, Anna Petry, and Hannah Davidson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Amedy Abshire and Adlelide Villejoin Abshire; sisters, Olite Abshire McCormick and Mae Carrie Lawrence. A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday, from 3:00 PM until 10:00 PM. Visitation will continue Friday from 7:00 AM until time of service. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM Thursday, at Pellerin Funeral Home, in New Iberia. Pallbearers will be Brett Petry, Scott Petry, Kevin Petry, Will Guidry, Rory Oliver, and Glen Davidson. Pellerin Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of the arrangements.
