New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Monday, January 14, 2008, at St. Peter Catholic Church, in New Iberia for Rufus L. "Pop" Marin, Jr. 86, who died Friday, January 11, 2008 in New Iberia.
Entombment will follow in Holy Family Mausoleum.
Rev. Charles Langlois will be the Celebrant. Readers are Lydia Hoffman and Patrick Broussard. Gift Bearers include Hunter and Kelli Lahasky and Allison Broussard.
A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mr. Marin was an Abstractor of Land Titles. He attended St. Benedict Seminary for three years, and was very active in St. Peter Catholic Church, where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Little Theater, and the French Optimist. "Pop" enjoyed singing, working on the computer, western movies, and traveling.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Helen Dronet Marin of New Iberia; sons, Fred Broussard and wife Kim of New Iberia, David Broussard and wife Carol of Baton Rouge; daughters, Joann Ligi and husband Joe of Tyler, Texas, Aminthe Broussard and husband Patrick of Baton Rouge, Lena Lahasky and husband Andrew of Houston, Lydia Hoffman and husband Rich of Alexandria, Virginia; sister, Lily Carlson of Morse, LA; 16 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 2 nieces, and 5 nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Marin, Sr. and Blanche Mauboulas Marin; sister, Evelyn LaBauve; brother-in-laws, Dutch Carlson and Leo LaBauve.
Pallbearers will be Keith Carlson, Andrew Lahasky, Allen Carlson, David Carlson, Tommy Carlson, and Ricky Carlson.
Honorary pallbearers include Pat Mauboulas, Merlin Lormand, Newton Lormand, and Burt Landry.
A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday, from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Sunday. Visitation will continue Monday from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM.
