Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, September 11, 2007, at Pellerin Funeral Home Chapel in Breaux Bridge, for Russell Joseph Guidry, 66, who died on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at his residence, after a lengthy and courageous battle of cancer.
Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
Rev. Fr. Ed Degeyter, will officiate at the funeral service.
Mr. Guidry was affectionately called "Pappy", by his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, love of his life and caregiver, Penny Berard Guidry, of Parks; one son, Dexter Guidry, of Breaux Bridge; two daughters, Betty Fremin and her husband, W.J., Charlotte Burdin and her husband, Chris; his granddaughter, Lylah Burdin, all of Parks; two step daughters, Nicole L. Huval, and her husband, Toby, of Parks, and Angie LeBlanc, of Lafayette; three step grandsons, Colby Babin, Nicholas LeBlanc and Jake Huval, all whom he loved as his own; four brothers, Jules "Black" Guidry, of Catahoula, Harry Guidry, of St. Martinville, James Guidry and Ralph Guidry, both of Parks.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Noe and Adelaide Landry Guidry; a brother, Alvin "Papit" Guidry; a sister, Folsie "Poop" Guidry Robin; and his future son-in-law, Dr. Douglas Abadco, who was to be wed to his step daughter, Angie.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 8:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 11, 2007, until time of service.
A rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Harry Guidry, Dean Guidry, Dexter Guidry, George "Butch" McHugh, Raymond Latiolais and Chris Burdin.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Hospice of Acadiana and his nurse, Jo Doucet, our true angel; "Black" his brother and daily companion; "Butch" McHugh, his loyal friend who blessed him with countless visits and words of encouragement; Dr. Joseph Brierre and staff; Dr. Paul Breaux, III; and Jill Hill, NP; the outstanding nursing staff at Lafayette General - Oncology Floor; LGMC Home Health and Claude Guillory.
