New Iberia - Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 19, 2019, at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia for Russell "Speck" DeRouen, 81, who passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2019, at Garden View Assisted Living in New Iberia.
Entombment will follow in St. Nicholas Cemetery in Patoutville.
Pastor Stephanie Leleux will officiate.
A gathering of family and friends will be at Pellerin Funeral Home from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Thursday, and will continue on Friday from 8:00 am until 10:00 am.
A native of New Iberia, Russell "Speck" Derouen was born on June 2, 1938, and grew up on Weeks Island. He proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era, and worked as an electrician at Morton Salt, Sorrel Electric, and Grand Isle Shipyard. Speck enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved taking his dogs for rides, listening to music, and playing Bingo during his stay at Garden View.
Mr. DeRouen is survived by sons, Craig DeRouen and wife Charlotte of Jackson, TN, Chad DeRouen and wife Michelle of New Iberia, and Clint DeRouen and wife Denise of New Iberia; grandchildren, Breaton DeRouen and spouse Kacey of Parks, Chelsea DeRouen of New Iberia, Logan DeRouen of New Iberia, Skylar DeRouen of Dallas, TX, Claire Evans Broussard and spouse Trevor of New Iberia, and Caleb Evans and spouse Kristynn of New Iberia; great-grandchildren, McKenzie Dugas, Karter DeRouen, Hazelyn DeRouen, Everly DeRouen, Caden DeRouen, Oakley Viator, Sutton Viator, Wyatt Broussard, and Whitley Evans; a brother, Howard DeRouen of Lydia; sister, Joanne DeRouen Prince and husband Anthony "Tony" Prince of Jeanerette; and nephew, Anthony “Joey” Prince.
Mr. DeRouen was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Fremin DeRouen; and his parents, Joseph and Edma Foreman DeRouen.
Pallbearers will be Breaton DeRouen, Logan DeRouen, Caleb Evans, Anthony "Joey" Prince, Tommy DeRouen, Johnny DeRouen.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Garden View, and to Grace Hospice and Pallative Care for everything they did for Speck; and a very special thanks to Mary Reese, Margie Sam, and Christianna Keal for the excellent care they provided; and to Kizzie Keal for all of the help and guidance she gave the family while Speck was at Garden View.
